How to Beat the Algorithm in 2023 for Instagram


Instagram is a powerful platform for businesses of all sizes. With over 1 billion active users, it's a great way to connect with your target audience and promote your products or services. However, with so much competition on Instagram, it can be difficult to stand out from the crowd. That's where the algorithm comes in.


The Instagram algorithm is often referred to as a single algorithm when it is really multiple algorithms at play. With Instagram constantly changing, it makes it difficult to keep up. However, there are a few things you can do to improve your chances of success.


First remember that Instagram’s number one goal is to keep you on the App as long as possible. So if you’re a business owner on social media this can work in your favor.


As I mentioned earlier, Instagram has multiple algorithms that work for different features of the app. In May of 2023 Instagram shared a tweet on Twitter showing you how and why you see what you see on the App.


Now lets get started, there are 4 different types of Algorithms on Instagram. We have the:

  1. Feed algorithm. This is based on the creator who posted the content, the content in the post, and your feed activity once the post has been shared to Instagram (shares, likes, comments, saves, etc.)

  2. Stories algorithm. This is based on the stories you've viewed and engaged with recently.

  3. Reels algorithm. The Reels algorithm is similar to the feed algorithm. It is based on the creator who posted the Reels, the content in the post, and your feed activity once the post has been shared to Instagram (shares, likes, comments, saves, etc.)

  4. Explore page algorithm. This is based on your daily engagement on the explore page, the creator who posted the content, the contents of the post, the activity of the post.

Now that you know what each algorithm is and how they work, here are five ways to beat the algorithm in 2023 for Instagram:

  1. Post consistently.

Don't confuse posting consistently with your frequency. Understand that you need to create a posting schedule that aligns with your lifestyle. This will allow you to be more consistent on Instagram and ultimately help you build the like, know, and trust factor with your audience. Now that may be posting 3 times a week or 5, etc. Understand that the more you post, the more visibility you can get for your account on Instagram.


2. Use relevant hashtags.


Listen up, it doesn't matter if you use 5, 7, 11, 15, or all 30 hashtags. The goal is to use hashtags that align with your industry and the content in your post. Remember that hashtags are a great way to get your content seen by more people. When you use relevant hashtags, your posts will show up in the search results for those hashtags. 3. Create engaging content.


Your content should be interesting and engaging enough to keep people scrolling. Use high-quality images and videos, and write interesting captions. Use Stories to share behind-the-scenes content, ask questions, and don't forget to share your knowledge as well. Instagram has created so many options to make your stories interactive for your community and the more you use them strategically the better chances you'll have to increase your reach in your Instagram stories.
